Kevin Slemp

Senior Pastor

Originally from Elizabethton, Tennessee, Kevin Slemp has served as the Senior Pastor of Berea Baptist Church since 2000.  He is a 1991 graduate of Berea College and earned a Master of Divinity degree at Baptist Seminary of Kentucky.  In the years following college, Kevin toured professionally with the Christian quartet, the Penny Loafers, and sang on six recordings with them.  Then Kevin launched his own traveling ministry of speaking, music, and drama.  During this time, he served for two summers (1997 and 1999) as a camp pastor for the Baptist youth camp, Centrifuge.  In August of 1999, Kevin joined the Berea Baptist ministerial staff as Associate Minister and Minister of Education.  He then was called into the Senior Pastor position the following spring.

Kevin lives in Berea with his lovely wife, Felicity, and their two children, Eliana and Aiden.

Russell Cole

Minister of Edu. and Admin.

Russell has served churches in Georgia, Kentucky and Virginia as Minister of Education and Youth prior to joining our staff in July of 2003. He oversees the education program of Berea Baptist as well as the daily administrative aspects.

Russell grew up in western Kentucky and graduated from Union University in Jackson, Tennessee. He received his Master of Divinity in Christian Education from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Cindy, live in Berea with their two children, Nicholas and Kristina. His hobbies include whitewater rafting, riding jet skis, hiking, camping and genealogy.

Don Breeden

Minister of Youth

After graduating from Murray State University in 1998 with an accounting degree, Don felt God’s call into youth ministry.  Don joined our staff in July of 2003 as Associate Pastor of Youth.  He graduated from Baptist Seminary of Kentucky in 2009 with a Master of Divinity Degree. Don grew up in Louisville, Kentucky.

In addition to youth ministry, Don has been an actor, published writer, professional juggler, dancer, singer, and a puppeteer.  He has been on performing arts teams, worked at camps, and led seminars and workshops at Christian conferences.

Don loves baseball and has a dream of someday visiting every major league stadium.

Don and his wife Kristin live in Berea with their three children, Logan, McKenzie and Ethan.

Sarepta Bailey

Children's Minister

Born in LaFollette, TN, she has split her years in Tennessee, Texas, and Kentucky. Raised by a Preacher and a Teacher, she credits her love for children and the ministry to her parents.

Pursuing degrees in Elementary Education and Special Education from Berea College and Eastern Kentucky University, Sarepta finished her degree in 2009. During those years she participated in many mission trips and projects locally and internationally.

Sarepta has been attending and volunteering at Berea Baptist Church since 2001. She volunteered in all aspects of ministries at BBC before being called as Children’s Minister in 2015.

Sarepta married John in 2007. They have 2 children: Callum (2009) and Elora (2012). All love to travel together.

In her spare time, Sarepta enjoys reading, cooking, crafts, and organizing.

Alan Pike

Music Minister

Through the blending of contemporary and traditional elements, the worship at Berea Baptist meets the needs of many who visit and attend here. This is led by our Music Minister, Alan Pike.
Alan grew up in the central Kentucky area and graduated from Berea College with a degree in music in 1990. He traveled for several years with the Christian music ministry, “the Penny Loafers” and began his tenure at BBC in May of 1997. He lives in Berea with his wife Elizabeth, and two sons, Ethan and Noah.
Alan’s prodigious talents in conducting, multi-media and leading praise and worship enhance our worship in an energetic and meaningful way.

Brenda Curry

Financial Secretary

Brenda has served as our Church Financial Secretary 22 years. Previous to this position, she worked in the Academic Vice President’s Office at Berea College.

Brenda is originally from Kansas City, Missouri where she served as Pastor’s Secretary at Calvary Baptist Church in downtown Kansas City before moving to Berea.

Brenda is married to Mark Curry and they have one son, Claighton Curry.
